Gary Stevenson’s take on the UK’s outrageous wealth inequality had everyone cheering and he’s that rarest of things – a YouTuber with a brain, a very big brain
Full disclosure – we hadn’t come across Gary Stevenson before but having watched him on Thursday night’s Question Time we’re going to be following him everywhere we can find him.
He’s a former City trader turned YouTuber and analyst and activist – find Gary’s Economics on YouTube here – and his take on the country’s taxation system and the wealth inequality in the UK had everyone cheering.
“Why are we taxing working people more than billionaires?”

Bravo that man, bravo!
And he wasn’t done there.
Gary is punching from the bell. Bruce can’t hold him back.
Bet the rest of Bbcqt tries to play we need millionaires to exploit us. #TaxTheRich. #bbcqt pic.twitter.com/XVivag9Hgc— Mick ☕️ (@MickCoffey2) March 27, 2025
Or indeed there.
@garyseconomics I understand that it’s difficult to tax rich people because politicians are rich people and they are funded by rich people and they put loopholes in the system that means rich people don’t pay tax … and it ends up being paid by working people. #bbcqt pic.twitter.com/ah363dPkaG

Wins our vote.
And not just ours, it turned out. Here are just a few of the many things people were saying about him.

I am a big fan of @garyseconomics
What he says is correct
It is appalling that this government is in thrall to the very rich no less than the Tory government before them https://t.co/0dOiBmttcI

All he is advocating for is a tax on earnings over £10m. That is none of us watching this clip. All of us, our ct has risen, energy, water, food, insurance, fuel, everything except our wages. Only earners over £10m should be complaining, everyone under should be supporting

The look on Camilla Tominey’s face is priceless.
You can almost see the panic on her face as she thinks oh shit how can I defend that.— Colin Patton (@colinpatton10) March 27, 2025

It was very funny watching this. When he included the panel as rich people, Fiona Bruce did a big ‘hang on mate, don’t include me in that, have you seen what the BBC pays?’ She earns over £400,000 pa at the beeb alone. Well off people don’t think they’re well off. https://t.co/bBKEcOKAht
