JD Vance said the US had ‘no other option’ but to take Greenland and was schooled all the way around the world and back
Turns out JD Vance’s much-anticiped big Greenland visit wasn’t even a day trip – he just spent a few hours on an ice-locked US military base before scrurrying home with his tale between his legs.
But never let it be said that he wasted his time there, making sure he caused as much offence as possible before heading home.
And very possible nothing caused more offence than his nonsensical claim that the US had ‘no other option’ but to take a ‘significant stake’ in Greenland because Denmark had ‘not done their job in keeping this area safe’.
Vance: We have no other option. We need to take a significant position in Greenland to keep the people here safe and to keep our own country safe. pic.twitter.com/8PmzbJskfL

And we’re glad he did – in a way – because it gave people the opportunity to point out precisely how much sense he was talking. Some of them are especially straight talking but – you know – they had no other option.

The only country Greenland needs to be kept safe from is the United States. https://t.co/kwVufuOEkz

USA is trying to do with Greenland what Russia is doing with Ukraine.

@JDVance what are you talking about? Greenland has an established political party voting for independence from Denmark. They have told you over again they don’t want us there.
What you are saying is that the US is preparing to use military force against Greenland.

People voted for lower prices and instead they are getting unhinged threats towards Denmark, a crashing economy, and fascism. https://t.co/pZIUqxVSik

This is called blatant aggression.
Hitler did the same before attacking Poland in 1939 & so did Putin before his full-scale attack on Ukraine in 2022. https://t.co/tNTrwGNBbT— Anders Åslund (@anders_aslund) March 28, 2025

Greenland *was* safe, until the threat of a US invasion.
