How many floppy disks would you need to install Windows 7 – we do the maths so you don’t have to

This image of an an install disk is doing the rounds on Twitter – the joke being you’d need of lot of them to install Windows and that would be a very bad idea indeed.

@Miradoreltd over on Twitter says, “Only 407 disks to go…”

Out of curiosity let’s do the maths on this:

Ok. How big is a Windows 7 ISO. Well let’s look on PirateBay:

And a floppy disk is 1.44mb

So 3.1gb/1.44mb

Google says:

Shit the bed.

TWO THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY TWO FLOPPY DISKS.

And how much would that cost? Well Amazon are selling packs of 10 disks for about £10 – so just over £2000 to you mate.

It would also be 7.1 miles tall, which given that Bill Gates is 1.77m tall is almost exactly 4 Bill Gates.
