Maybe choosing Halifax to launch the Tories’ manifesto wasn’t such a good idea
Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea for the Conservatives to launch their manifesto in Halifax.
It was the first time the Tories had ventured so far north for such a set piece event, staged in a converted derelict mill in the traditional Labour stronghold.
Here’s what happened next.

Not a great welcome for Theresa May in Halifax for #NastyParty Manifesto launch. Will we see this all over MSM? pic.twitter.com/7lPf8hDZsD

No TV debate as Theresa May 'wants to meet the people'.
Looks like there's a few folk waiting to meet her in Halifax. #torymanifesto— David Rigby (@DavidRigby5) May 18, 2017

Launching a Tory manifesto in Halifax must feel like a proper away day. Tins on the coach. No colours. Praying no local asks you the time.

Seems Halifax have seen through the #NastyParty lies.

Maybe this is why (Halifax has had only two Conservative MPs since the second world war).

Stark contrast for May in Halifax to the welcome Jeremy Corbyn gets wherever he visits.#torymanifesto #NastyParty pic.twitter.com/LWSeeMsFQr

Here’s the slightly comedic scenes of the Tory front bench arriving to join the Maybot, each of them greeted with a big “Good morning!” and occasionally an ironic cheer by the bunch of photographers who have presumably been hanging around forever.
