Nick Cave’s response to a fan about the death of his son is just extraordinary
People are sharing Nick Cave’s open letter about the death of his son, Arthur, who died aged 15 in 2015, because it is so beautiful.
The singer was replying to a question on the Red Hand Files website earlier this month.
This is what the fan asked.
“I have experienced the death of my father, my sister, and my first love in the past few years and feel that I have some communication with them, mostly through dreams. They are helping me. Are you and Susie feeling that your son Arthur is with you and communicating in some way?”
And this is how he replied.
Rufus Jones posted it on Twitter and it’s now been shared more than 12,000 times.

Here are just a few of the many responses it prompted.
Just exquisite, isn’t it? I am in awe of Nick Cave’s ability to find such linguistic and emotional beauty in a subject associated with such utter torment. So very moving 🌺

This is inspiring and heartbreaking in equal measure. As someone grieving the loss of my mother 2 months ago, this seems just right to me.

Beautiful.
It has struck me recently, why grief comes in waves. It could be evolutionary, for the strength of the pack. The different stages mean that even shared loss can be supported by others going through it, and the pack can find the strength to carry on.— Katie Langdon (@ktlangers) November 3, 2018
I’m speechless. He has said with beautiful mystery what most of us cannot put into words.
