The brilliantly festive new trailer for Die Hard proves it’s a Christmas movie

The question of whether the 1988 action movie, Die Hard, is a Christmas film or just a film set at Christmas has been raging since its release. There’s a song that says it is, but for anyone still unconvinced, Twentieth Century Fox’ trailer for the new 30th-anniversary DVD and Blu-Ray release is unequivocal.

It couldn’t be more Christmasy if it had Macaulay Culkin setting traps for burglars or James Stewart talking to a wingless angel. These are some of the comments it’s picked up on YouTube, along with a quarter of a million views, in just over a day.

Not everyone was on board with the official Christmas movie designation, but someone suspected they knew who the killjoys might be.
