A new statue of Victoria Wood looks more like these 11 people than it looks like her
When Victoria Wood was a child, her crippling shyness prevented her from speaking to the staff at her library about joining, so she would sneak books out to read and return them the same way. In a touching move, her home town of Bury plans to erect a memorial statue of the much-missed comedian near the library, but the sculpture approved by the council has split the internet, with many asking the question “Who is that?”
This is the likeness, created by Graham Ibbeson, the sculptor who produced the statue of Eric Morecambe for his home town.
And this is, as though we need reminding, how she really looked.
These 11 people have all been suggested as the real subject of the statue.
