Jay Rayner just owned Toby Young all over again and it’s game over
You’ll know by now how Jay Rayner killed Toby Young (and Sarah Vine) with words earlier today.
Here’s how Rayner did it (and you can read the whole thing here).
The two of you have both made a terrible mistake here. You’ve have confused me knowing you, with holding either of you in any regard whatsoever. And Toby, if I’d done something so terrible that you coming to my aid might help, I’d deserve to be left for dead.

Despite being left on the floor for dead, Young managed to raise himself to send a reply of sorts.
I’ve always had a certain regard for you Jay — always believed that beneath that tetchy, thin-skinned pomposity, there was a decent bloke. But Twitter brings out the worst in all of us.
— Toby Young (@toadmeister) April 25, 2019
Which was a bad idea, it turned out, because he just got killed all over again.
I have been called thin skinned and pompous by Toby Young. It’s a bit like being called too religious by the Pope. And there I shall leave it. These restaurants won’t review themselves. https://t.co/CnqevwG3BT

Boom!
I would just like to place on the record that, as a man of 52, I have met many people over the years. Some of them have been truly delightful. Some of them have been tossers. Out of politeness I have tolerated quite a lot of the latter.

He also took the time to address what Daily Mail columnist Sarah Vine said about his mother, the late, great agony aunt, Claire Rayner.
This is typical of @jayrayner1 he knew us all back in the day when he worked for the mail on Sunday. Yes, Tweeps, he worked on the Mail. His mother was a very talented and famous journalist.
— Sarah Vine (@WestminsterWAG) April 25, 2019
Here’s what he said.
As to my mother, you're right. She was indeed a very talented and famous journalist, and I'm damn proud of her. Thank you for reminding people of her. The Night and Day period, 93 – 96, was also interesting for so many reasons.

And here’s what other people had to say about him.
Jay Rayner just served a double helping of ‘fuck you’ and its piping hot.
— Dick York (@HungoverSquare) April 25, 2019
It is a very telling exchange. He thinks because you’ve known each other for many years, you should defend his bullshit. That’s the world he lives in. Jobs for the boys, cover each other’s backs and to hell with everyone else. The man has no class. A simple apology would suffice.

I love you more than ever Jay…
Toby. Not so much.

At an event once I told someone 'Jay Rayner' was a pen name and his real name was 'Ray Jayner' and he overheard me and told the person that it was true. Legend
