Simply 23 times Jay Rayner won at Twitter
Everyone loves restaurant critic and TV presenter Jay Rayner after he destroyed Toby Young (and Sarah Vine) with words today.
Just in case you missed it, this is what started it, when Rayner took Young to task for trolling 16-year-old climate change campaigner, Greta Thunberg.
I’ve known the rt hon @toadmeister since he was 19. I’ve also worked with him. The only constant has been his lack of self-awareness. Today, the son of Lord Young called out a determined eco-campaigner for being privileged. He has only become more himself with age. #twattery https://t.co/v1T9CJHscU

So Young said this …

… and Vine joined in.
This is typical of @jayrayner1 he knew us all back in the day when he worked for the mail on Sunday. Yes, Tweeps, he worked on the Mail. His mother was a very talented and famous journalist.

Prompting this takedown of the year contender from Rayner.
The two of you have both made a terrible mistake here. You’ve have confused me knowing you, with holding either of you in any regard whatsoever. And Toby, if I’d done something so terrible that you coming to my aid might help, I’d deserve to be left for dead.

BOOM!
Anyway, it’s not the only time Rayner’s done this sort of thing, as anyone who follows him will know. Here are 23 other times he won at Twitter.
1.
A semi-colon instead of the comma would be much more elegant. https://t.co/yDwLhx3jQ7

2.
I have been called thin skinned and pompous by Toby Young. It’s a bit like being called too religious by the Pope. And there I shall leave it. These restaurants won’t review themselves. https://t.co/CnqevwG3BT

3.
What a sad, inadequate man. This is everything that has been wrong about restaurant kitchen culture. Because he suffered violence and abuse as a young cook, Ramsay thinks it’s character building and so the cycle continues. All he’s doing is glamourising bullying. https://t.co/u48jHu8L9M

Given the nature of twitter It’s ‘read’ not ‘seen’; you need commas after ‘total’, ‘unprofessional’ and ‘illiterate’, and really it should be ‘as you’ not ‘like you’. https://t.co/5l21qRJpzA

5.
I pity the publisher who receives @tomhfh’s pitch for a novel, if he finds the idea of making up Greta Thunberg’s mother impossible. https://t.co/Mvc5IWRZej

6.
Why? Is it a job you hope you might have the qualifications for? https://t.co/J5xKZndFKL

I would just like to place on the record that, as a man of 52, I have met many people over the years. Some of them have been truly delightful. Some of them have been tossers. Out of politeness I have tolerated quite a lot of the latter.

So your blunt stupidity and lack of self awareness is everybody else’s fault? https://t.co/pOjncEPuUW

What I love is the lack of self awareness. This one’s profile includes the hashtag #prowhite. Me and my silly paranoia. https://t.co/T8nvnpoTKF
