Newsnight had the best response to Tory MPs who want the BBC to play a nightly national anthem
You’ll probably already have seen how a growing number of Tory MPs are backing calls for the BBC to play the national anthem every night.
Andrew Rosindell, the Conservative member for Romford, floated the idea in the House of Commons this week, saying the anthem creates ‘unity and pride’ and should be played every night during the year of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
"Will the minister take steps to encourage public broadcasters to play the national anthem?"

There were plenty of totally on-point responses, like this one from Gary Lineker.

And it turned out it’s not the first time Rosindell has suggested the BBC play nightly homage to the monarch.
We only mention this because when he did it five years ago, BBC2’s Newnsight had the perfect response which has just gone viral all over again.
