Rishi Sunak’s pre-budget photo-op got exactly the mockery you’d expect
It’s budget day – well, Spring Statement Day, which is a kind of mini budget, but we’re still likely to see the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, waving his red box about like a kid showing off a new lunch box.
On Tuesday, he posted a pre-statement photo to show how hard he’s been working, or how much his printer bill is likely to be. It wasn’t totally clear.
Here’s what he said.
Delivering greater economic security for our people, accelerating growth and productivity, and making sure the proceeds of that growth are shared fairly.
That is not the work of any one statement. But that work begins tomorrow.

Quite a few people had the same response.

The Conservatives came to power just under 12 years ago. Since then they've been steadily making life worse for the average person in this country. But apparently they're going to start changing things 'tomorrow'. It's always tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/7ERKskbLCD

It begins tomorrow.

Undoubtedly the Conservatives' greatest single skill is pretending they have not been in government since 2010 with a straight face https://t.co/KIK7vYSl82

As is traditional on these occasions, Twitter used the photo to take the piss.

Finally, a Rishi Sunak parody account tweaked his message.
Delivering poorer economic security for the peasants by ensuring a slump in productivity, and making sure the proceeds of that growth are given to our chums.
Work begins tomorrow.
