Gary Lineker just brought Piers Morgan’s launch ratings magnificently down to earth
Just in case you haven’t noticed, Piers Morgan is back on TV, beginning his new Talk TV show with an interview with Donald Trump.
His new show averaged 317,000 viewers …
Piers Morgan got an average of 317,000 viewers between 8pm and 9pm on talkTV last night (2% audience share), peaking at 397,000 people watching.

… which doesn’t compare entirely favourably with the last time he was regularly on the box.
Ratings. Piers Morgan's final day at Good Morning Britain: Peak of 1.9m.
Piers Morgan's first day at #TalkTV: Peak of almost 400k.
Now, that's what I call a walkout.— IAN HYLAND (@HylandIan) April 26, 2022
And there were a bunch of favourable reviews to go with the negative ones (see if you can spot what they all had in common).
Reviews for Piers Morgan's new cable TV show:
The Sun and The Times (owned by the same company as #TalkTV) absolutely LOVED it.
The Guardian: "A Jeremy Clarkson tribute act."
The Telegraph: It was better than GB News.
The Herald: "Two fat blokes have a sweating competition."— IAN HYLAND (@HylandIan) April 26, 2022
Anyway, needless to say Morgan was delighted with his opening night ratings.

Only for his long time Twitter nemesis Gary Lineker to burst his bubble in magnificent style.
Congratulations, Tubs. I can’t imagine what it feels like to get such small numbers. Thrilled for you. https://t.co/u8nhNqw0Dh

Morgan’s comeback wasn’t half bad, however.
Aww thanks Jugs! 😍
I was happy to get 60% higher ratings than BBC News. ps you can’t imagine what it’s like to have your own global show either, but I’ll be equally thrilled for you if you ever do… https://t.co/GkFys1zWjI— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) April 26, 2022
Which prompted Lineker to share a few more stats.
But, but, BBC News got 2.7 million viewers last night on @BBCOne.
ITV news at ten averaged 1.6m. And Channel 4 news got 0.7m. https://t.co/fdp4hEPJh7— Gary Lineker 💙💛 (@GaryLineker) April 26, 2022
Still, at least there was one thing they could both agree on.
Now that, I applaud. 👏🏻🤣 https://t.co/8uC20zX9DS
