This super specific school timetable is making people’s brain hurt
It’s been a while since we were at school, obviously, but we don’t remember the school timetable looking quite so complicated as this.
The high school schedule went viral after it was shared by Redditor mad_cherry who said: ‘My little brother’s middle school schedule. he’s having such a hard time remembering when periods start and end. why are the times this specific?’
And it’s specific with a capital S.
And for reasons some people explained, it’s not quite so hideous as it first appears and there are reasons that it works this way. But still …
‘My middle school was like this too. I’m 48 years old now and yet I still remember waiting for the 3:14 dismissal bell each day. It has to do with bus timings, required instructional hours, and use of classroom space. I will note that at least your brother didn’t need to write down where lunch was, so he’s got that going for him, which is nice.’
BadgerinBaltimore23‘This is how my high school was. We started at 7:25 and had 7 mins between each class.’
bobtpro‘7 minutes? That’s enough time to get to class AND go to the bathroom. What kind of hippy dippy let’s consider the needs of the children high school did you go to? 😂’
BadgerinBaltimore23‘It’s just 40 minute periods with four minutes to pass between classes?’
caffeinated22‘The times are also just as specific as times in increments of 5 minutes. It’s just not a usual increment to use so it seems more specific, but it’s clear it’s a recurring pattern.’
MotoMadic‘The state has requirements for “minutes of material” in a school year and the schedule is made in such a way that they’ll meet the requirement. If every class started/ended on the hour or half hour they wouldn’t meet the requirements.’
kmkmrod‘That and there is a possibility of massive amounts of logistic planning with both transportation and food services.’
