Record industry finally catches up with man who made mixtape in the 90’s

Pirate News: After a 15 year investigation, copyright lawyers for the music industry have finally caught up with a man who illegally made a mixtape in the 1990’s.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) today confirmed that they had tracked down the man who made a mixtape for a girl he was trying to impress in 1997.

It’s reported that one side of the mixtape had a distinct ‘Britpop’ feel, featuring songs from Radiohead’s OK Computer album, as well as Blur’s self titled fifth album and The Verve song “Bittersweet Symphony” from Urban Hymns.

The second side was more upbeat, in order to prove to the unnamed girl that the man wasn’t just a shoegazing, introspective loser. This side featured tracks from Daft Punk, the Spice Girls and – in an attempt at irony – the UK’s Eurovision entry for that year by Katrina and the Waves.

“This guy thinks he’s so clever, trying to show off facets of his personality through a mixtape,” said RIAA spokesman Chad Dowelling. “But he’s a pirate, and our team of investigators have spent the last 15 years – at a cost of over 8 million dollars – tracking this scumbag down.”

“I’d like to see if he still thinks impressing that girl was worth it, when he’s tossing some felon’s salad in maximum security prison.”
