People loved Siobhán McSweeney’s response after Amazon used her picture without permission
We love Siobhán McSweeney in everything she does, from Derry Girls to The Great Pottery Throwdown and beyond.
And now we can add Twitter to this list after Amazon used her picture on Twitter without her permission.
And McSweeney responded like this.
Oof.
We don’t know about going for a pee, but Amazon workers have claimed their toilet breaks are timed and earlier this year the company saw their first UK strike over pay, conditions and union rights.
Amazon later deleted their tweet, and McSweeney had the perfect (and perfectly polite) follow-up.
Thank you @AmazonUK for deleting my image.
And sort out your working conditions. https://t.co/0nLE4swQ3m— Siobhán McSweeney (@siobhni) August 21, 2023
Boom.
You are our queen. Thank you. Bx

Amazon told the BBC earlier this year that it has a system ‘that recognises great performance’. A spokesman said it ‘also encourages coaching to help employees improve if they are not meeting their performance goals’.
‘Performance is only measured when an employee is at their station and logged in to do their job,’ they said. ‘If an employee logs out, which they can do at any time, the performance management tool is paused.’
They also said at the time that employees are ‘offered comprehensive benefits that are worth thousands more – including private medical insurance, life assurance, subsidised meals and an employee discount, to name a few’.
The company told Metro that pay is now £11 or £12 an hour depending on location, and stressed that colleagues can always use the toilet whenever they need to.
