Lee Anderson’s inflation error was made so much better by Carol Vorderman’s intervention
Lee Anderson, who gets to vote on what laws are or aren’t passed for the rest of us, doesn’t understand the very basic concept of inflation.
He proved it with this post –
Twitter/X users with subscriptions stepped in.
‘Prices are increasing at a slower rate than predicted’ definitely isn’t a Tory triumph, and it certainly wasn’t the gotcha the party’s Deputy Chairman thought he’d found.
He received this helpful suggestion from the absolute legend that is Carol Vorderman.
Lee…a little lesson
Inflation means prices are going UP. Annual inflation was 3.9% to November.Which means that something costing 30p a year ago would now cost 3.9% MORE
So people don't have "more money in their pockets" they have LESS

His schoolboy error, the community notes and Carol’s barbed response caught the attention of the internet.

Lee Anderson's ridiculous tweet got community noted. https://t.co/H1ArWTXiFu pic.twitter.com/Qvm7yU4EtX

When inflation goes up it's because of global issues, and when it comes down it's because of Tories. Everyone got that? https://t.co/pIZ7CUR4Z2

As a child, I read the Professor Branestawm tales. He noted that the faster you go, the sooner you reach your destination. So, if you go fast enough, you will arrive before you set out and will have travelled in time.
Lee Anderson applies this logic to inflation. pic.twitter.com/ir32OhIUIw

At 3.9% annual inflation rate
30p Lee becomes 31.7p Lee in a years time
Meaning prices are still going up

Please consider
It’s thanks to the hard work of MPs like Lee Anderson, Jonathan Gullis, Peter Bone & Scott Benton that inflation has dropped to an amazingly low 3.9%
I urge all of you today that if you meet a Tory MP or councillor shake him or her by the hand & say thank you. pic.twitter.com/GlaDRVePyl— Sir Michael Take CBE (@MichaelTakeMP) December 20, 2023

Do you think part-time MP & full-time shit-stirring overpaid "News" propagandist #30pLee deliberately pretends to be a thick infatile dickhead, or… https://t.co/2MHh1mQQrq

It's like sticking someone up, demanding £10, settling for the £5 they've got in their pocket, and then telling them you've made them better off. https://t.co/6I92Ns5s1y

"So, if I have 4 beans, and I add 3.9% to that, do I have more or less beans Lee?"

The water that was up to our necks is now up to our noses but, although we will die of drowning, the increase in the water level has slowed down. Well done, you absolute end of a bell.

“I’ll have two from the Far Right and any other four please Carol”
If we’re all being honest here, none of us expected Lee Anderson to have mastered advanced fiscal economics given he’s still getting to grips with opposable thumbs… https://t.co/MmnRnidog5

So Lee Anderson Plc is fluctuating quite a bit on the market today. Opened at 30p, rose to 31.7p but then the market lost confidence in him and prices had dropped to 17p pic.twitter.com/2mFd57Cmlb

You can’t expect Lee Anderson to understand complex economics. https://t.co/OEdOSKb2Zw

This seems like a good idea.
Maybe Rishi's extra maths initiative should start with you. https://t.co/8afYJ7dMW3

Perhaps Rishi Sunak‘s extra maths initiative is because of him.
