The birth of Phil Foden’s baby brought this absolutely hilarious on-brand Roy Keane comment back into focus
The England team has been on a short hiatus at the Euros, hopefully making good use of the gap between Tuesday’s uninspiring 0-0 draw against Slovenia and this Sunday’s fixture against Slovakia.
Whatever the rest of his teammates have been doing, Phil Foden has had the most fulfilling time, being present at the birth of his third child with girlfriend Rebecca Cooke – a little brother for Ronnie and True.
It reminded people of the absolute legend Roy Keane’s comment after he was asked if Robbie Keane (no relation) would be available for the Ireland squad after the birth of his son in 2016.
Here’s what he said.
Peak Roy Keane, right there.
Jay Motty made a joke about it.
‘Foden’s left the England squad cos his mrs has had a baby. Should he start on Sunday?’

Perhaps the less said about this the better.
Laughably I heard today an England football correspondent actually saying out loud that Foden might not be able to play on Sunday because he would have missed a couple of days of Southgate's tactical instructions !
