A troll told this fashion writer to ‘stick to clothes’ after they talked about US gun laws and their made-to-measure comeback was simply magnificent
You don’t have to be a dedicated follower of fashion – or know anything about menswear writer Derek Guy – to appreciate this.
It was Derek Guy – better known to his many, many followers on Twitter as @dieworkwear – who was moved to contemplate the US gun laws in the wake of the shocking assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
seems like we should have a conversation about how young people have access to high powered weapons https://t.co/YG7cr81bWc

We mention it not only because he makes a most salient point but because of this particular American who told him in no uncertain terms to stay in his lane, or as he put it …
Stick to clothes
— John Strong (@realjohnstrong) July 14, 2024
And it prompted plenty of admirable responses, like this.
Oh, one of those free speech for me but not for thee guys?

And like this.
You haven't been around here much if you think you can have a go at @dieworkwear and not get burned to a crisp by him.

And just as they predicted, no-one did it better than @dieworkwear himself, surely the cleverest, most satisfying and totally on-point comeback you’ll read this week.
ok. it's easier to buy a gun in this country than high rise trousers with a slightly wider leg that's not too baggy so they look classic and modern at the same time https://t.co/kfDzxdi988
— derek guy (@dieworkwear) July 15, 2024
Magnificent! And he did stick to clothes, right?
And the people who continued to take issue with him really should have known better, and just made the whole thing even more pleasurable.
I don't recall having to give any personal information to anyone at all to buy pants.
— Emily G (@EmmmieG) July 15, 2024
that's bc you buy ugly pants
— derek guy (@dieworkwear) July 15, 2024
You have to be 18 to buy long pants and 21 to buy shorts? Only citizens and lawfully resident aliens are allowed to buy pants? If you commit a non-violent felony, you automatically lose your right to pants? The government dictates what type of pants you're allowed to have? Oh,…

the cut im talking about doesn't even exist in ready to wear. you'd have to go bespoke, which means relying on a niche network of traveling tailors and waiting 1.5 years to get your pants. so yes, considerably harder
— derek guy (@dieworkwear) July 15, 2024
Guns are more practical than what you just said
— Tocephin (@Widnothrongding) July 15, 2024
i actually think pants are more practical than guns but i leave my house
— derek guy (@dieworkwear) July 15, 2024
We’re with this person.
