Celebrity comebacks Jeremy Clarkson
Jeremy Clarkson’s worried there aren’t as many butterflies as there used to be and Danny Wallace’s A++ reply was the only one you need
Jeremy Clarkson isn’t quite the cultural driving force he once was, what with Top Gear many years behind him and The Grand Tour making only an occasional splash on Amazon Prime.
Indeed, Clarkson is now better known for getting behind the wheel of a tractor than he is a supercar, on his hit Amazon show, Clarkson’s Farm.
And it was presumably while he was pottering around on his 1,000 or so acre farmstead that he noticed there weren’t so many butterflies as there used to be, and prompted him to tweet this.
Just been for a walk round the farm and I’m a bit alarmed by how few butterflies there are. Something is afoot.

And it led to no end of helpful (and occasionally less helpful) responses.
I’ve been noticing this. There are hardly any insects at all. Very alarming.

And bees Jeremy. We live in a 20 acre buttercup meadow and a severe lack of bees and butterflies this year

This year has been very bizarre, the weather has been all over the place, I guess insects have suffered because of that?

I noticed that, but more slugs

I’ll say it. #Chemtrails pic.twitter.com/pbdJuYMCYV

Stop spraying – go organic. In the meantime leave min 3m uncultivated strips on the margins so beetles, insects and ground nesting birds can thrive
— Gilchesters Organics (@Gilchesters) July 21, 2024
We are doing all the right things. Including not going organic. Which doesn’t work.

But no-one said it better than the great Danny Wallace.
Diesel-smelling Top Gear host who threatened climate protestors misses butterflies. https://t.co/7i0kLZOyyk

Yes, man!
Not everyone liked it (just most people).
I agree. However, his show is doing more for farming than any other in this country. That Is a fact.

That’s true Danny. But to be fair, Clarkson has had a very visible and clear turnaround on climate change. He’s changed his mind and been very vocal about changing it. So I think that should give him a pass now.
