A man in eye-catching trunks became a very random Olympic hero, and Joe Lycett had the best reaction
The Paris Olympics has a new hero.
The public will never know his name, he hasn’t won any medals (that we know of) and his feat didn’t break any records, yet he earned quite the roar of appreciation from the crowd.
See for yourself the moment that he became an Olympic legend.
GIVE THIS MAN A MEDAL!
When a rogue swimming cap found its way into the Olympic pool, this man and his snazzy shorts sprung into action in front of 15,000 people #BBCOlympics #Olympics #Paris2024 pic.twitter.com/QkYxhGupbK

The lifeguard, who doesn’t wish to be named, carrying out one of his more mundane duties – retrieving the lost cap of American swimmer Emma Weber – brought some much-needed dad bod energy to the Olympics, and people were very much here for it.

If you were at a British primary school and were asked to retrieve a foam brick from the bottom of a swimming pool for no apparent season, fear not, your day may yet come. https://t.co/nZX1W2t7SP

The “Don’t make me sing” of the Games so far. He must’ve been like “Oh no, I lost my cap in the pool, I guess I’ll have to go and…” before rapidly stripping off to the budgie smugglers he’d preemptively put on at the hotel and doing this #Paris2024 #Swimming https://t.co/mgyDMIqX3l

Now here's a man at ease with the world (and his body).
Most of us would dread having to strip down to tight trunks on an Olympic stage like this.
Or anywhere … https://t.co/xbJOTOvYvP

If you noticed a resemblance to a certain person, you weren’t the only one.
I was just in the right place at the right time. Anyone else would’ve done the same. https://t.co/O1VcV5x7QK
