Alastair Campbell’s no-holds-barred confrontation of Nigel Farage on Question Time got a heartfelt round of applause – in and out of the studio
Nigel Farage has appeared as a panellist on BBC’s Question Time more than all but four other living politicians, although over a much shorter period of time than all of them.
He made his 38th appearance this week, visiting Lincoln, alongside Jacqui Smith, Kevin Hollinrake, and Alastair Campbell.

There was a collective groan at the news.
In a few hours time, Fiona Bruce will defend having Nigel Farage on #Bbcqt for the 38th time, by saying "He's an elected MP. We have to invite him"…
… as if Question Time's constant platforming of him for years, isn't part of the campaign that made him an MP.

During an exchange about the damage inflicted on the economy by Brexit – an expected drop of 15 per cent in trade, according to the Office for Budget Responsibility – Alastair Campbell called out Nigel Farage in no uncertain terms.
Alastair Campbell to Nigel Farage: “I’ll tell you what you are, you’re somebody who will exploit any problem going for your own political ends. Brexit was a fundamentally damaging thing for this country. It’s made us poorer, weaker & it’s hit our standing in the world”#bbcqt pic.twitter.com/F0CoTsnME3

You don’t need to be an Alastair Campbell fan to recognise the facts he laid out. And the truth bomb didn’t just get a round of applause in the room – it continued online.

Thing is … Brexit was done exactly as Farage wanted but he's a professional heckler who has never had to implement a single thing in his life.
So he can moan, point, shout … without consequences #bbcqtpic.twitter.com/Zoi3j5TmDH

Well said @campbellclaret – #Farage has never been made accountable for the damage #Brexit has caused our country.
Politicians must tell the truth about Brexit & call out Farage for the divisive, opportunistic charlatan he is.
He & his like must be defeated in robust public… https://t.co/pp1lwjKudK— Anna Soubry (@Anna_Soubry) December 5, 2024

Well said Alastair! I couldn't agree more! Farage has always been a divisive, negative force and an opportunist, for himself, never for the country! https://t.co/sbV22wPuif

Farage is just a loud mouthed boorish clown. A stain on British politics which would be a lot better without him and his reform MP mates.

@Nigel_Farage was looking to the audience to back him up but they didn’t! Maybe the country is starting to see him for the grifter he is! Never done a days work in his life!

Deirdre Heenan summed up.
Big takeaway from tonight’s Question Time #bbcqt
Alastair Campbell can single-handedly destroy Farage’s self-serving, divisive, populist rhetoric in a way that appears beyond the entirety of the Labour party. pic.twitter.com/rGRaqMdNRv

Alastair Campbell had an update.
Loudest applause of the night according to the clapometer under the desk … runner up was Jacqui Smith and a member of the audience speaking up for migrants and against the demonisation of them. https://t.co/qySIl9usuB

There’s a clapometer under the desk??
